Liam was fine but after Emma woke up from her little nap she hurled everywhere! She seems better today but we are just doing Pedialyte.
The thing with Emma is that as soon as she pukes (no matter how much or little) she wants a bath. So she had about 5 baths in about 2 hours! She is a good puker other than that. If she can make it she knows to get to the bathroom and hurl into the bath tub or toilet.
So we are just going to take it easy this weekend and hopefully get rid of it all so they can go back to school on Monday. Cliff is working anyways.
I just finished watching the movie Four Brothers. Not bad. A little violent (but I like that).

I came here
to write something and I forget what. DOH! What a tard I am. I am home today (Friday) Liam woke up at 3:30am with diarrhea so I thought he had gastro. Well he does not he is fine. Oh well. At least I am getting my laundry done. But I seriously came here to tell you all something OTHER than about Liam's bowels. DAMN.
Ok well until I can remember I am just going to talk about nothing.
So what is everyone watching these days? Our TV schedule is SO full it is not even funny.
Monday: 24, Medium, CSI Miami
Tuesday: One Tree Hill, American Idol, Law & Order SVU
Wednesday: Lost, American Idol, Criminal Minds (I think it is on Tuesdays as well) sometimes CSI:NY
Thursday: ER
Friday: Ghost Whisperer, Close to Home
Saturday: Hockey (not by choice)
Sunday: Cold Case, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy
Other shows I watch but have no idea what nights they are actually on and I won't necessarily die if I miss: House, Invasion, How I met your Mother, Courting Alex,
Shows I wish I could watch but it conflicts with something else : Invasion, Without a Trace
Shows I look forward to coming back: Prison Break, The Sopranos.
I seriously do not remember The Sopranos anymore it has been so long! If anyone would like to enlighten me on what happened the last season (whenever that was) it would be appreciated. I am probably missing a few other shows that I like but I think that is enough.
Let's see..oh we have a few birthdays today. My cousin Nicholas - I think he is turning 23! Now that is scary! He was just a few months old when we moved out to Victoria. Yikes! I have actually been back in Quebec longer than I lived out West (yikes again, especially considering my grasp of the french language) . We also have Cousin Erin's man Aaron (yes we have all acknowledged the Erin and Aaron play on names thing - the amusement is over) The old dude is 31 today (5 months younger than me the bugger).
Shit Emma just fell asleep on the couch. See what happens when you ignore your children?
Ok so I am babbling on and I still cannot remember what I came here to say. I suck.

Finally getting somewhere!
Ok so we are at our friend's Marc and Denise's on Saturday night and Marc offers me a drink. I choose my poison (vodka) but he does not really have anything to mix it with. So what did he have?? Gingerale. It was not that bad. I think there was more vodka then g-ale. I had two so I guess it was not that bad.
I also learned to play Texas Hold'em. I had played once before with Aaron and Erin but I did not really get it. I won some kick ass rounds but then I got cocky and lost everything. Thank god it was not real money! I will NEVER play for real money.
While we were there we started to plan a little vacation! Sounds like we are going to go to the Maritimes for a week with them and their kids (and ours ofcourse) in August! I think we are looking at staying at Parlee Beach in NB and we will also go to P.E.I.! It is not what I wanted to do this summer (I wanted to go to BC but I am too short on airmiles) but it started to sound like fun and at least Cliff will be able to come! We are driving obviously so it should be a fairly affordable trip. So now I am really looking forward to it! I have 3 weeks vacation this year (FINALLY!!) so I will still have two to do something else with.
I met with a kitchen designer from Home Depot on Friday and we are going again tomorrow (this time Cliff is coming). I met with the most awesome guy JC (Jean-Christophe). He seemed really honest and was extremely helpful. When it came time to make another appt at first he was booked but said I could go with someone else and I said no. So he tells me " Don't worry Mrs. Carson we don't work on commission here" LOL.. I stick with what I like and what I am comfortable with. We also are having an interior designer come in on Monday night. It is a free service that Home Depot offers! So I said why the hell not! She will be able to help us choose color of tiles for the floor and counter tops and paint etc. I am starting to get really excited! I will be sure to post before and after photos!
And the biggest news of the week is that we got a puppy :) It was sort of a spur of the moment undertaking but we are thrilled with our new addition! He is a black lab - just over 4 months old. His name at the moment is Walker (after Anakin Skywalker - guess who chose that one) but we were playing with some other names last night and tonight. 1) Bauer (after my hero Jack from 24) , 2) Vader (because again we have a Star Wars fan in the house and because the pup is all black it just made sense) and 3) Trouble (now that the wee thing is starting to come out of his shell we can see this one is going to get in all sorts of trouble!) But he is an angel compared to Boomer! He is just really mellow and it just made me realize even more that Boo must have had a doggy version of ADD or something. The best part is that Cliff is in LOVE with him. He even took him out before for a little exercise which just shocked me.
Walker is going to be my walking companion but right now I cannot get the baby out of the freakin driveway. It has been so cold here and he just did not want to have anything to do with being outdoors!! He is great with the kids and he and Bella are the best of friends! They are playing like crazy and it is fun to watch Bella get tackled after being her personal chew toy the last few months.
Kids are doing great. Emma is such a chatterbug and such a BRAT! Liam is still sensitive. Emma and Liam are both finally out of diapers at night! Funny there is 27 months apart and that they are accomplishing this milestone together! Liam has a few accidents here and there but I don't think he is an official bedwetter, we are just not adamant enough about him going before he goes to bed. Emma- well she likes to fall asleep in our bed (alone though) and when I transfer her to her bed we take a pitstop to the potty and she goes and she is good for the night. I have to get her between midnight and 1:00 am (it's not like I am sleeping anyways?!!) and then she is good for the rest of the night.
March 1st tomorrow..well I guess in about 5 minutes. As I mentioned in my previous post, I cannot wait for spring.

I just wanted to say
That I think Gingerale is about the most awful soft drink out there. Gingerale's only purpose in life should be to re-hydrate folks that have been bowing to the porcelain God, cause seriously it tastes like shit. Maybe with alcohol..I will have to give that a try..
So we are on the search again for a kitchen guy. Cliff basically told the guy we had lined up to fuck off yesterday. The guy is a dolt. He says he will come on a certain day and he never shows up and does not call. After like 2 weeks he finally comes for measurements. He gets ALL excited about the reno, trots off to make some plans and we don't hear from him. Cliff finally gets in touch with him and he tells us that he will come Wednesday or Thursday. Again he does not show up and never calls. So Cliff called yesterday and he said screw him. We don't have time for that shit. I know I am swearing alot..gotta be me. Ooops sorry took a break there for a sec..Bella was all wrapped up in my neck. Coming for kisses and cuddle and with that vampire you gotta take what you can get before she decides to drive her teeth into your flesh. OK so back to the kitchen - we are back to square one. We are thinking about just going through Home Depot. We don't need the contractor bullshit stuff and this way if the guy screws up at least we can hit Home Depot and complain.
What else. Oh all Cliff's tests came back good!! Yippy! I cannot believe it is going to be his Five year Anniversary with his "new" heart in July. I think that will call for a big celebration! So keep your eyes out for an invite in June ;)
I applied for another job on Monday. Have not heard anything yet damnit. If I don't I will be rather insulted..I have never applied for a job and NOT gotten an interview..the distance is not better but the money is. I would love love love to get a closer on the West Island but there does not seem to be anything out there at the moment.. crap. What I would really like to do is work from home. I always check out that shit online but it all seems to be a scam. I don't think there is any money in making scones..so I am stuck for now.
Well Dawn is going to be having that baby pretty soon! March 9th is the scheduled day for the C-Section. I cannot wait to hear what she is having!! More just to see if my theory is right..So far all of the cousins except one sibling from each pack have had same sex kids. Nat has two girls, I have one of each and now we wait for Dawn to see if she has another boy. Steven has two girls, Chris has one of each (Lise had the baby yesterday!) and we wait for John and Nadine.. Jimmy has two girls, Mikey has one boy so far and we have to wait to see if there will be another one there?? And of course we wait for John! Get cracking boy find yourself a woman and breed already. The ofcourse there is Erin and Helen was the only one out of them all to have one of each so I don't know where that leaves us with Erin!
I cannot wait for Spring..

Just a quickie..
Well Liam's birthday is over and done. I was too preoccupied with the preparations yesterday to really think about it. But I found myself thinking alot about him today and how grown up he is now.
I also started thinking because AF was a wee bit late this month (and there was a moment or two of panic as I thought about being pregnant again..don't worry though the bitch reared her ugly head this afternoon) about NOT having anymore kids of our own. I know we are done..I love my kiddos and I am loving having the independance now that Emma is getting a little older. But I don't think I could "alter" myself permanently..(ie tubes tied). My biggest argument for this was doing another surrogacy but in reality I don't need my ovaries to do another surrogacy. That is an egg thing and I don't use my eggs so I really could have my tubes tied and still get pregnant via the hi-tech way of IVF. Anyway these are just the thoughts going through my head. The things that perhaps are keeping me up at night so I figured maybe if I just get the shite out of my head I can get down to business and start sleeping!!
Fact is Liam is all growed up, AF is here and I am my usual hormonal self. End of story.
Liam had a great birthday. He got some awesome gifts (thanks everyone!!), he got to play with friends and ate cake..I don't think you can get better than that at his age. He lazed about all day today playing with all his stuff. Uncle Mark gave him twenty bucks that was burning a whole in his pocket so Cliff took him to Wal-Mart to pick a toy. They came back with a cowboy outfit wiht the authentic looking pistols. I was PISSED! I have been denying Liam guns for about 6 months and had been doing a damn good job! I was so proud of myself for sticking to my guns about the guns (no pun intended)! You know what Cliff's defense was???? "You were going to give in Karen so I just gave in for you" He is so much MORE a sucker than me. My deal with the guns is that god forbid that if Liam ever became some pyscho (yes I know I think I spelled that wrong but I am too lazy right now) and used a gun at least if someone ever tried to blame me and we all know that would happen then at least I would have the fact that I did not let him play with guns!! So he comes in with these pistols, shoots me twirls them around and blem on them like he was a PRO! I asked him where he learned that (thinking Cliff showed him) and he told me from Tom. So I ask him who Tom is? He says from Tom & Jerry...lovely.
So what else. IP's came with the baby yesterday! It had been 5 weeks! She is getting big fast and is just beautiful! A wee bit cranky but nothing a little less iron won't fix (now if they would just listen to me about that!!) I think she still recognizes my voice. She was good for us last night and IP's seemed to enjoy being out and having a bit of a break!
OK I am boring myself to the state of sleepiness so I can just imagine what this is doing to all of you!! G'night!

Happy Birthday!
I cannot get over the fact that Liam is going to be 5 years old! Where the heck did the time go? If I remember correctly 5 years ago today I was running around like banshee on one of my last days at work before leaving on maternity leave. There was so much to do, so much to get finished before I was ready to have that baby. The plan was that my last day was February 2nd. Liam was not due until February 9th and I figured that after the last 9 months or so if insanity that I had at this workplace (I basically got pregnant the day I accepted the job offer) I was entitled to a week off at least before he made his appearance.
Well my dear sweet Liam had different plans for us! I woke up that Sunday morning in labor. The fun had begun! After a fairly uneventful labor (with the lovely assistance of my good friend Epi Dural) Liam made his starring debut about 16 hours later. He was a whopping 9lbs 4 oz and was a stocky little guy. He was so strong he could practically hold his head up right from the start! My sweet little boy, my little man. He made it so easy to be a Mum. He was such an easy going baby..the type that make you think you can do it again almost immediately!
As he would say “he is all growed up now” . Man is he ever. He amazes me every day of what he already knows and things that come out of his mouth. He is a Mama’s boy there is no doubt about that. He loves his swords and loves his action figures. He will play alone with those for hours on end. He also loves his sister and is such a protective big brother. Not necessarily at home but at school when they are outside he is always watching over Emma and that I love. I know they are probably going to fight until they are 20 (or drive me to insanity whichever comes first) but knowing that he is there protecting her is so much more important. Mind you the way Emma is she will probably be protecting him soon enough. But that is another story all in itself.
He loves his karate. I cannot wait for him to start to experience other activities and sports as well. We are hoping he will get into T-Ball this year, also hoping that some of Cliff’s natural talents in all things active rub off on him. There has yet to be a sport that Cliff has not excelled in. If he does not have the natural talent I can only hope that he at least tries and has fun in that effort.
I asked Liam a little while back what he wanted to be when he grew up. I was not even sure he would know what I meant but he did and you will never believe what he said to me..he told me he wants to be a Prince. LOL.. I wish! I don’t really want him to be anything in particular when he grows up as long as he is happy and is using all of his talents to the best of his ability I will be happy. Whether he accomplishes that in being a doctor, a lawyer, a welder, an entrepreneur - it does not really matter.
Happy 5th Birthday Liam

Still alive
Okay let's face it - I am lazy. Since the pregnancy has been over I have reverted to my insomniacal ways, yet do I drag my ass over to this site (cause again let's face the fact that it is winter and my ass is either on the couch or on the puter) to post an update??? No.
So Desperate Housewives was a repeat, thanks everyone for TELLING me. The popcorn was ready, the Diet Coke was ready. Truly a disappointment! Grey's Anatomy was good though as usual.
I have just been hanging out. Anxiously awaiting the end of the big "W". Mind you it has not been so bad this year but I still hate winter. I know I should just get over it ,I have lived here long enough now that I should actually go out and buy myself a tuque and scarf and mitts. But I haven't. Hell I finally bought a pair of boots this year so that is enough for one season!
Work sucks as usual. I finally took the plunge and sent my CV to a friend of a friend who works at a placement agency. Christ I am even too lazy to look for my own job! Now how sad is that?? LOL. They sort of "dodged" our raises that we all assumed we were getting in July by saying "oh you thought we meant THIS July? Silly people (all 100 of us) we meant NEXT July" Buncha assholes. Funny how ALL of us were confused. But to bridge the "gap" they gave us 1.1% increase based on the Consumer Price Index. Anyhoo it has been shit since September (of 2000) LOL.. and I have had it. Empty promises etc etc. I get these rave reviews of how awesome I am and that I could be doing so much more and it looked like I was heading in that direction until they decided that one of us was not busy enough. So they abolished her position and dumped all her work on the other two. So now I had to climb back down into the sludge that I started with almost 6 years ago because the volume is insane and I don't have time to do the more challenging stuff! That is the only remotely challenging thing of my job now is keeping up with the volume..oh and making sure I staple my documents in the EXACT right place so the big wigs don't have a coronary. Ya think they would have something better to do.
Back to the insomnia...it was such a joy to be pregnant and actually be able to sleep! Speaking of the pregnancy etc. The baby is doing awesome! I cannot believe she is almost 3 months old!! We saw her on the 28th of December and will be seeing them all next weekend as well. As for doing it again?? I don't know yet. I think so. But I am going to take some time for Cliff and the kids and work on losing all this extra weight and then take it from there. My biggest fear is not meeting another couple as cool as these guys were. I know we will be friends for life. We had a perfect journey as far as we all are concerned so how do you top that now?? I would do it in a heartbeat for them again but they want to get started earlier than I would be ready. The feeling of helping a couple in this way is truly euphoric and there is not an ounce of regret in me about doing it. Unless you have done it you cannot possibly know.
What else.. Cliff is well. He just a pretty big promotion! He will now be an operator (I think) and it pays quite a bit more. He has a fairly big day at the hospital coming up so I will let you all know if there is anything that comes out of that.
I think that is it. If I think of anything else I will come back.

Getting back into the swing of things..
Well the first week of my vacation (but we call it "recovery" for my boss' sake..hehe) went great. Cliff and I hung out on his days off and the kids continued to go to daycare etc. I think we kept them home one day that week.
The second week..sucked the bag. Monday we kept the kids home because we were just not organized nor motivated enough to get our lazy butts out of bed. Tuesday I managed to convince Cliff (also known as bribing) to bring the kids to the daycare alone..it was the only day out of the 2 weeks off that he did it (so yes I basically guilted him into it oh and ofcourse bribed..). So he gets home and not a half hour later the teacher calls to say that Emma has lice and we have to pick her up and we might as well take Liam too so we can treat them both at the same time. All I can say is ICK!! I have been scratching my head ever since! So we trotted off to the Pharmaprix and picked up all the products. Oh and it was all rushed because I had an oil change appointment too boot.
That night after all the lice treatments were done, Boomer started to act strange. He was pacing back and forth and seemed to want to puke but nothing was happening. I called the vet at around 11:30 just to see what he thought..if it was something to be concerned about. He had been like that before and he normally just threw up and he was ok. He finally settled down at about 12:30 and I caught some z'sss while waiting for the vet to call. Well he did not call until 5:30 and I had never woken up before that to check on him. The vet asked me a few questions and told me to get him to the DMV in Montreal or to him ASAP that he most likely had bloat (gas in his stomach) and was in shock. So Cliff was working and I called him home (he had just walked in and was walking back out!) I called Dad and Shirley and had them comeover to watch the kids until Cliff came home. I took my Dad with me as well because we could barely get Boo in the car (Shirley and I) We got there and the Dr. told us to bring him in but we could barely get him out of the car. So the Dr (Dr. Bill) came and tried to pick him up with a towel around his stomach to keep him on his feet and have me coax him. It did not work so he just picked him up and whisked him in. Boomer had really deteriorated on the 25 minute drive.
Dr. Bill rushed him onto a table and he said we have no choice he is dying..and he stuck a needle (not attached to a syringe) right into his stomach and you could hear the air just coming out of his stomach. It was like deflating a balloon. Due to the fact he is a country vet he has no staff with emergencies so I had to hold on to the needle and press down! Then he got Dad to come in and hold another one!! The smell of the gas coming out was VILE. Once the air was out it was time to get him out of shock. At this point Shirley came and picked up Dad and I stayed on. He had to insert a tube down Boomer's throat to get more gas out and also to give him anti-gas stuff directly into his stomach. He seemed to be doing a little better but his temp was low. I spent the next few hours in wait and see mode - warming him up with a blow dryer (no incubators for 100 lb dogs) and taking his temp every 15 minutes. Dr. Bill wanted to do an X-ray to see if his stomach had twisted. But we did not get to that point because Boo started to bloat again. We did all the procedure again (needles and tube with anti-gas) but it did not work again. Within about 2 more hours he bloated again and at that point I told Dr. Bill that was it. I could not take him suffering like that anymore. We had "problems" with Boomer - he was not a bad dog but he was certainly not the dog for us. I swear he had the canine version of ADD..regardless I would never want to see any living thing go through that. It was terrible to see. Going with another vet I would not have seen most of it because they would have a staff to assist. I also was scared that it would happen again at home while I was at work and that was just terrible to even think about.
I stayed with him while Dr. Bill gave him the needle. I never thought that I could handle seeing that. I know I couldn't when we had Hogan put down (an equally crazy but epileptic dalmatian we had for a few months) but perhaps that is what growing up is all about. I felt I owed it to him to see him on his way. He is in a better place now and no longer suffering.
The rest of the week was still dealing with lice. Emma was able to go back to school on Friday and as far as we could see Liam never got them.. PHEW!
Friday night was lovely. We went out for a lovely dinner with Dad & Shirley. The rest of the weekend was quite relaxing.
Then it was back to work on Monday! I came back to 110 e-mails and 55 phone messages..lovely. I got back into the groove pretty quick.
On the surro front - well not much to say right now.. baby is doing well and so are the new Mommy and Daddy! Just enjoying parenting and all that comes with it!

Here it is :)
Author: Heather Weller Published on: July 16, 2001 http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm...acy_new/74940/3You've just delivered a surrogate baby, what are you going to do? If you answered you're going to Disneyland, perhaps you should postpone that a month or so. Chances are you're going into that amusement park thrill ride all its own: post partum mood swings.I've read many surrogate birth stories over the past two years, and they're all wonderful to read. But some have stuck out for their honesty in dealing with the emotional aspects of the time after the birth. And those that have shared a common theme: it's not all happy all the time.I think this is an important message to get out there to those in the world of surrogacy who haven't been through a birth yet: either as a surrogate or as an intended parent (IP). Many birth stories I read (by surrogates; I've read a few by the new parents themselves, but not as frequently. Hard as it is to believe, it seems they have something else to concentrate on ) would describe the amazing moment when the child was born and handed to the IPs, and how seeing how happy that made them made the surrogate feel an amazing surge of peace and pride for doing this amazing thing. Very few of these birth stories mentioned the down time that follows for MANY surrogates. It seems in part to avoid scaring others, and in part to avoid having others think they are "regretting their decision" or "want to keep the baby," many surrogates don't mention or downplay the sadness they experience after the delivery. And while I'm sure there are some surrogates out there who never have a single pang of sadness, that would seem to be a highly unlikely scenario. Though not for the reasons many outsiders initially assume. In today's society, if you mention surrogacy, people often still think instantly of Mary Beth Whitehead (15 years later!). One of the main questions surrogates are asked is "how can you be sure you can give up the baby?" That is what everyone focuses on. And many surrogates report feeling totally "watched" in the days and weeks following delivery, as those around them - especially those who were skeptical about the whole surrogacy thing to begin with - wait for them to fall apart and realize they made a huge mistake and they want that baby back. They feel the only way to avoid having to explain and justify any sadness is to deny any has occurred. But would it not be normal to be sad at the end of a surrogacy? I equate it to being involved in a play: for weeks or months you rehearse, you submerge yourself in a role, as the time for opening night nears your life tends to become more and more focused on this event, and then you have that wonderful shining moment on the stage, everything goes off wonderfully, the audience loves it, you couldn't have been better. And. Then. It's. Over. With a surrogacy, you've dedicated at the very least nearly a year to helping someone else be a parent when the delivery comes. And with very few exceptions, I've always heard the moment of seeing the IPs with their new child as being the highest high a surrogate can experience. But after that, where is there to go but down?Add that to the totally normal hormonal mood fluctuations following any birth and you have a woman ready to cry. Those who've described the downtime most vividly often talk of feeling totally elated one moment and devastated shortly after because their part in this is done. It's not the baby they miss - that is something everyone is emphatic about because of common perception - it's either the surrogacy itself or the IPs or the "specialness" of being pregnant, or simply the hormones going for a joy ride. And it's completely normal, if not often discussed.I think it's important that surrogates know this so that when the time comes, they know they're not the only surrogate who's ever cried when the baby left the hospital, or when they said goodbye to their IPs, or alone at night afraid to let anyone see them. I also think it's essential for IPs to be aware of this, because as almost any parent can tell you, it's very easy to become totally myopic when you bring home that child for the first time. Besides the rigors of adjusting to an infant's schedule, the whole process of adjusting to being a family leaves little energy or attention to other details. For IPs who've been trying to years to have a child then turn to surrogacy - or even just those who came to surrogacy initially as a way to conceive - the end of the surrogacy is not an end at all, but merely the beginning of their dreams. As natural as that is, the IPs should remember this is the end of the surrogate's role and dream. As easy as it is to get swept away in the day-to-day minute-to-minute minutiae of new parenthood, it is important to remember the person who brought you to this point of obsession! Many IPs speak of wanting to make a "clean break" and simply be a new family, and worry that keeping the surrogate involved in their lives will be more difficult for everyone. (Of course, the amount of contact after the birth one desires differs greatly from case to case - and is something everyone should discuss early and often.) But of the surrogates I know who had the easiest return to being "a woman who once was a surrogate" versus being "a former surrogate who wonders exactly how XXX is doing" were those who had some input from the IPs as they made the adjustment to being a family, who were allowed some time to say goodbye to the baby they carried in the hospital (often in private - something that scares a lot of IPs, unfortunately), and who felt appreciated for their role in making their IPs family a reality. It's this bit of extra hand-holding that actually often turns out to be a big source of closure. For me, knowing that I almost certainly will have periods of being upset or sad after giving birth has been helpful, in that I know I can prepare my friends and family for it so they don't instantly worry too much about my decision just because I have a period of "baby blues" even without having a baby around. It also has prepared me for it, so I won't fear that I'm starting down the fateful path Mary Beth Whitehead did simply because I'm not 100% happy all the time following the delivery. And if I'm lucky, the parent of the baby I carry will be able to provide reassurance that I'm not simply thrown to the curb like hired help once the job is done if I need it. This may not be the most fun or glamorous part of surrogacy to discuss, but I truly think it's an essential one.
OK so now what??
I think some people were expecting me to have a mental break down over this..but I can honestly say that I am doing great! Don't get me wrong I was expecting to have some "blue" days myself with those damn hormones in play and I have had a few moments but not really having to do with the surrogacy itself. I started cying on the Friday after I got home because Liam told me that I was mean (I would not let him have candy before dinner or something..) and ofcourse I get emotional over what I have actually done here.. I guess you would have had to be there when my IP's saw their precious baby girl the first time, or when they fed her for the first time etc etc..it was truly a miracle to witness. The instant love they had for her..I know I have been there with Liam and Emma but to actually see another couple go through it with their own baby! First of all most people are not in the birthing room with a couple (other than medical people) to see that - now obviously they had no choice here but I feel I was blessed to see this. To know that I helped make this happen...WOW!!
Baby is doing wonderfully - Cliff and I went up to visit a week ago and they are all doing great! I am sure now they have gotten into some type of routine.
So now what?? That is what I am suffering from.. what the hell do I do now? What just took place in the last year was HUGE..how do you go back to being normal? To no longer being a surrogate? I was prepared for dealing with the emotions of everything. I have spent years reading about this and then just spent the last year communicating with other surro's and seeing how they dealt with everything in their journies. That is probably why this has been so easy on me..there is one article in particular that I will post right after this that may explain how I am feeling now. I re-read it often just so I know I am not mental!
As for doing another journey?? I don't know..well I do know..if this couple asked me I would do it again in a second. I am hesitant about working with others..I have been so blessed with this couple. They are so easy going and it is just comfortable to be with them. So I guess only time will tell? I am not saying I would not work with another couple..just I am more weary.. but I will take lots of time (often surros get back on journey very quickly..within 2-3 months) but I want to take some time to lose LOTs of weight so if I do decide to do this again that I am in top shape!
So I guess that is it. I don't want to put the baby's name in here as it is not completely private but if you want to know just send me an e-mail!

She is here!!
I know most of you know by now - if you want to read all about the long day and night then continue on..
I woke up at 5:30 am on November 9th to a gush of fluid. Cliff, Liam, Bella (our new kitten) and I were all in the bed together. I said "Oh shit" and Cliff sort of got panicked (he thought I rolled over on the kitten) and then I told him I thought my water had broke. He said "you are kidding right??" I said "well either that or I just peed myself!!" So I got up and more and more fluid kept coming out and I knew for sure it wasn't me peeing!!! LOL.. So I called my IP's and IF answered and hung up on me (his battery died on the cordless) so I am sitting there staring at the phone going now what?? LOL.. So I called back and got their fax machine! Not exactly how I thought this moment would go in my mind!! So I tried again and IM answered all concerned asking if everything was ok.. so I said "well yes except my water just broke" She responded with "Oh shit!!" I told her I was calling the hospital to see what to do and I would call her back. So I called the hospital and they just told me to come in to make sure.. so I called them back and said we were going in but I was not having contractions or anything yet so they had some time..little did we know how much time they would actually have.
I called my parents and Shirley (my stepmother) came over to watch the kids. Dad was the one that answered and when Shirley asked him what was going on he told her "Karen's water just broke" she replied with "in the kitchen or bathroom?" LMAO she thought I was having plumbing problems! I did not pack my bag or anything we just went. We got there at about 7:00 ish and were put in a room. Meanwhile every move I made I just "gushed" everywhere. When we got there we explained to the nurse on duty the situation and if a couple walked in with panicked faces but the wife did not look pregnant..send them to us..LOL!
IP's showed up about an hour later and they decided to put us into the biggest room. My Dr showed up around 10:00. I had been being monitored and there were no contractions at all, baby was still very high and I was about 1 cm dialated. Dr. decided that I was not going to labour on my own with baby so high so we started the Syncote (Pitocin I guess) she assumed once it got started that she would be back in a few hours to deliver..WRONG!! Nothing was happening at all..they just kept upping and upping the pitocin little by little and there was no change!! The whole day went on and we just sat around and chatted all day long. They were also giving me antibiotics as well due to the fact that the baby was going to be a wee bit early. So the night started to go on as well and they checked me once in a while and no change and baby was still high!!! I started having a few irregular contractions at 10:00 pm or so but still nothing to write home about. The nurses had all been great with us all day long.
The Dr had given us until about 11:30pm and if there was still no change then we would have to look at the possibility of a c-section. The baby was not coming down so obviously my cervix was not softening or dialating! I walked around a bit after a potty break and one nurse tried to convince me to go on the birthing ball!! I was like no freaking way..I am such a klutz I would probably fall off and cut my head open or something. So she brought it in anyways and IF tested it out..LOL.. I think he will be buying one for everyone in his office for Xmas he quite enjoyed it. When we hit 11:30 I was having contractions but they were not that strong. They convinced me to go into the birthing tub for a bit in the hopes that after that I would have some change (the baby was a bit lower but still no where close and the cervix was a bit softer) my back was really hurting though (oh and at this point the syncote stuff was at the max 120 double strength!!) She said perphaps there would be enough change that I could have an epidural afterwards but I was worried that it could stop any progress we had made which was not much!My Dr. is not into doing c-sections unless baby is real distress and she was sailing through all of this. Then like at midnight as they were running the tub for me..the contractions started to get stronger and I started violently throwing up..it lasted about 10 minutes. Hurling and contractions DO NOT go together!! They had another nurse come in (shift change) and I had gone from 1cm to 5cm just with the hurling!! Cliff and my IP's were great during the hurling episode. Cliff went to get some coffee and all of a sudden I was allowed to get the epidural. The contractions were pretty intense by this point . So much for the tub..lol..I think I started vomiting because I was so scared to get a c-section and all the nurses swore that is what got everything started! The epi man came down and IF offered me a foot massage and apparently I gave him a very adamant NO! LOL.. we all laughed! IF stayed with me and held me during the epi cause IM would have passed out for sure. They got all ready and the epi man took his damn sweet time putting the stupid thing in. Something to do with not finding the right place at first. I think it was all in around 12:45 or so. He told me that it would take about 10 min to kick in. He waited around and they took my BP a few times and the contractions were coming about 3 min apart and the epi was not kicking in! At about 1:00 am they were too intense and I felt like I had to push. the nurse checked me again and the baby's head was right there and I was ready to go! But the Dr. was not there yet! She only lives across the street so they called her and told me she would be here in 10 minutes. I kept telling them we did not have 10 minutes...LOL. They got all set up and she walked in and I instantly calmed down..(she has that affect) but told her I really needed to push. She told me she was going to wash her hands and if I felt like I wanted to push to go ahead. So I did..she came back and the baby's head was right there. She told me to push again on my next contraction but the contraction never really came so she told me to push anyways. I did and in two pushes she was out. It was so easy to get her out I was sure she must have weighed like 5-6 lbs. The epi only kicked in a bit afterwards when the Dr. was delivering the placenta..so much for that epi!!!IP's had been up by my head and had been letting Cliff take all the beating from me..lol. They came right down to check her out and IF cut the cord. They went over with the nurses and all decided that she was quite big for being 3 1/2 weeks early! Cliff stayed with me and the Dr. proceeded with checking me out and delivering placenta. There was somethign wrong with the placenta..cannot remember what it was called perhaps someone might know..something about the cord being attached to the blood vessels?? Anyhoo the Dr. seemed to think it was better she came early because of this. Placenta was delivered and it was confirmed there was no tearing or anything. They weighed the baby and she was 7lbs 3 1/2 ounces and 20 3/4 inches! She was born on the 10th at 1:32 am. We stayed in the birthing room for quite awhile and IP's got lots of bonding time. I held her a little while after for about a 1/2 hour. We got our room at about 5:00 am and I basically fell asleep in my IP's faces while they waited for their room. I slept for about 2 hours although it seemed longer. I hung out with my IP's the next day and we all took turns holding her etc.. she is so sweet and so easy!! My Dr. told me I could leave that afternoon if I was up to it but my bleeding was a little much so I decided to just take a break and stay there for the next night. She preferred it but was not going to force it. I left Friday at 11:00 am and IP's and baby were due to leave today but she got a bit of jaudice so they are keeping them an extra day.My IP's are so in love..they were so not ready and had their friends and family scrambling to get everything done while they were in the hospital. I also was not ready so I am sure work is scrambling!! Physically I feel awesome as well as mentally. As much as I love that baby girl I don't feel like she is mine at all.. IF is sweet though as when come in he calls me Mommy..lol.. like she has two mom's! It is unnecessary but it just makes me feel appreciated. While I was in the hospital it just felt like it was my sister who had a baby and I was helping them out. The staff there was VERY curious about it all..you could tell they had so many questions..LOL..

My bad
OK I am terrible at this!
October just flew by (ok so did the rest of September) but things are good! We started off October in a serious heatwave..don’t get me wrong I love the heat but not in freaking October! We started off with Shirley’s 50th Birthday Bash Car Rally! What a wonderful day it was (or at least I think it was!) the weather was fabulous (if you had AC in your car ofcourse), some people got lost but I think all in all everyone had a good time! It was a lot of planning (thanks Ross for all of your help!!) but it was all worth it for my dear Mama #2!
The weekend after that was Liam and Emma’s baptism! The weather was shit but everything went quite smoothly. The kids made us laugh in the church and we had a good time back at the house. Thanks to everyone that came and for all the lovely gifts for the kids. It was also Thanksgiving weekend so you know what that means..Turkey… man was it good!!
Work has been nuts as usual.
ON the pregnancy front everything is going good too. I will be 36 weeks on Saturday! So it is just a matter of waiting now..I will be so ready when she is I know that for sure! My IP’s have moved and are settling into their temporary digs and I can already feel some of the pressure is off my IM which is so nice..she has so much on her plate at once it is crazy! I get tired just listening about everything she has to do in a day!
I had my normal pregnancy fall last Monday. It was bad this time. Ofcourse it was a Monday morning in the pissing rain into a knee deep puddle… it was not pretty nor anything remotely graceful. I cried..I felt stupid crying but it scared the crap out of me and it freaking hurt! I ended up falling on my left knee. I had the lovely scrape almost the size of my knee cap and ofcourse all bruised to boot. I had the Dr. look at it and it is not broken but very bruised. Walking is not that bad (well it is but not because of the knee!) but going upstairs, downstairs, on and off chairs and into my car..ouch..
What else..oh yeah.. Halloween.. it went great. Kids were super tired but Shannon, Shirley and Saylie took them out with me and they were such a great help! I was having a hard enough time walking!!
My ankles are swollen pretty well all the time now.. heartburn is still bad and I can barely eat anything without puking it up. Need to talk to Dr. O about that today. But it will all be worth it when my IP’s get to see their baby for the first time!
Hope all is well with y’all!! I am hoping to get some baptism pics up soon plus we got the daycare pics back and wait till you see them!!
OHHHH I almost forgot! Liam went last Friday for his next belt in Karate! He had a little test (Which I don’t think they fail anyone..) and he got his half belt! (1/2 white and half yellow!!) We were so proud!!

Here is Emma being all "satanish".. You might think that this is shaving cream as most kids do that (I know I did as a child and shaved my face to boot) but you would be wrong..this is diaper cream..good ole zinc oxide..it was on her legs, all on her shoulders and the back of her hair. OH and the best part was she crapped in her bathing suit as well..what a great night it was!

Damn it
I failed the first part of the gestational diabetes test..CRAPPY! I am not too worried yet because I failed it with Emma too but then passed the second part..so now I have to follow a 3 day Glucose Loading diet and then go for other blood tests..I am only going to start the diet on Monday though cause I have a really nice ice cream pie still left in the freezer..hehe The diet is not soo bad..lots of food just I hate being told what i cannot eat..LOL..
Oh yeah I was supposed to tell you all about the kids.. Maybe tonight. Cliff is working nights so I should be here with nothing to do (ok maybe housework..but yeah right..I have given up..we cannot even get through the picking up before it is destroyed again! )
